What a difference 48 hours can make, eh?
Our 1-0 defeat to Falkirk on 31st August was, rightly, met with much gnashing of teeth amongst the Aberdeen support. Yes, the Dons were well on top during the first 45 minutes and could, with some more clinical finishing, have been a couple of goals to the good by the time that Nicky Devlin was ordered off.
There’s plenty of arguments to be made on both sides as to whether VAR was right to intervene and send Ross Hardie to the Main Stand monitor to take a look at the challenge again but what can’t be denied is that the Bairns were well worth their 3 points on the balance of play in the second half.
With that result, the Dons remain rooted to the bottom of the table, goalless and pointless after 3 games. Combine that with an annoyingly meek exit to FCSB in the Europa League and things were looking bleak around AB24 – progression into the last 8 of the Premier Sports Cup the only real positive that could be taken from the opening phase of a season that we entered into on the wave of optimism that only a Scottish Cup win can bring.
