Sunday afternoon at Pittodrie had long been penciled in as a, potentially, pivotal afternoon in the race for 3rd place in the SPFL Premiership. With the Edinburgh derby taking place at lunchtime, the 3pm fixture between Aberdeen and Dundee United was always likely to be an intriguing tie between the 2 sides who are, currently, most likely to battle it out with Hibs to end the season tucked behind the Glasgow sides and who, failing Celtic winning the Scottish Cup, would pick up a guaranteed place in the group stages of European football next season.
